Children doing homework

Reykjavík City and Home and School - the National Association of Parents are partnering to offer homework help for primary school children at the Reykjavík City Library branches in Kringlan and Gerðuberg.

Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir signed the agreement alongside Sigvaldi Agni Lárusson, chair of Home and School, and Kári Stefánsson, board chair of the Children's Welfare Fund, which is providing a grant to support the program.

Reykjavík City is providing space at the Reykjavík City Library branches in Kringlan and Gerðuberg. Home and School volunteers will offer children and their parents dedicated homework assistance.

Mayor Hildur Björnsdóttir called the agreement a crucial milestone. "Our primary goal is to promote equal learning opportunities for children in Reykjavík and to provide homework support to anyone who needs it. We are starting at two City Library locations with excellent public transit connections. The service is open to all primary school children in Reykjavík."

The program will run throughout the 2026-2027 school year, beginning in September. Organizers will share more details about the homework help program as the launch date approaches.

After the program is established and initial feedback is evaluated, organizers hope to expand it to additional locations.
