Events with food and drink sales on Culture Night

Anyone planning to sell food or beverages at their Culture Night event must comply with the applicable regulations.

An operating permit from Reykjavík Public Health is required to sell food or beverages.

If alcohol will be served at the venue, an alcohol service permit must be obtained from the District Commissioner of Greater Reykjavík.

Venues that already hold an outdoor dining permit do not need to apply for an additional permit unless they plan to serve alcohol outdoors — such as at an outdoor bar. If outdoor alcohol service is planned, an alcohol service permit must be obtained in addition to a valid business license.

  • No one may serve alcohol outdoors without a valid alcohol service permit.
  • Alcohol service must take place within the area covered by the outdoor dining permit.
  • Alcoholic drinks may not be taken outside the outdoor dining area.

Events without food and drink on Culture Night

Those planning to host an event without food or beverage sales must also follow the applicable regulations.

If the event is held indoors, the venue must hold an operating permit as a public assembly space.

This permit is applied for through Reykjavík Public Health. An event permit from the District Commissioner of Greater Reykjavík is also required.

If the event is held outdoors, no additional permit is required.
